#4 The Metropolitan – East Village District
The Metropolitan San Diego Condos are conveniently located right at the intersection of the East Village and Gaslamp Districts. Since The Metropolitan Condos are in reality the luxury residences on top of the Omni Hotel you can expect hotel level amenities (gym, two pools, sauna) and the best services around (room service, dry cleaning, maid service, etc). HOA’s are high ($1,000 +) but if you don’t mind paying them you can get some of the best amenities among all downtown San Diego condominiums.
Location is fantastic. Just out your door you can find hundreds of dining options at the Gaslamp District. Just one block away is Petco Park and just a few block away the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge that will cross you over to the opposite side of Harbor Drive where you can access the San Diego Bay, Seaport Village and the hotel row including the Marriott Marina, Manchester Hyatt and The Hilton Hotel.
The units at The Metropolitan San Diego are spacious and well appointed. Its very rare to find a condo for sale under $1 million since all condos are on high floors and will offer panoramic views of the bay, the city and/or the ball park.
#5 Harbor Club Towers – Marina District
Although this was one of the very first luxury high rise condos in downtown San Diego (1992 completion date), Harbor Club San Diego still maintains one of the most prestigious addresses in town. Right on the southern edge of the Marina District Harbor Club enjoys a terrific location with entertainment and dining options right out your door in the Gaslamp District. Morton’s steakhouse is located on the retail space below at the Harbor Club Towers.
Most units at Harbor Club enjoy unobstructed views of the bay and those in the southern side above floor 15th have some of the best Bay views in San Diego. Condos at Harbor Club enjoy views of Coronado island and the bridge to the South, the bay to the west for some beautiful sunsets and units facing North and East offer some great city and mountain views.
Amenities at Harbor Club San Diego Condos are typical for a full service luxury building. Gym, Pool (lap pool sized) and Dry Sauna. Tanning deck with outdoor seating and BBQ area and a community room for functions and events equipped with a full kitchen. Concierge and Security.
You might find that some units at Harbor Club are a bit dated and need some remodeling in the Kitchen and Bathroom areas, but if you can live with that or get lucky and find a remodeled unit then Harbor Club San Diego should definitely be considered in your San Diego luxury condo or apartment search.
#6 The Grande Towers – Columbia District
Location is superb, about 6 blocks to Little Italy District for dining and entertainment options and about 12 blocks to the Gaslamp District for even more entertainment options. The Bay is just a block away.
Condos at The Grande San Diego are modern, nicely finished and well equipped. The Grande has a nice 1 bedroom 1.5 baths floor plan that has about 900 sq ft, which is pretty spacious for your typical downtown San Diego 1 bedroom apartment. There is also a great two bedroom plus den floor plan with 1,800+ sq ft that is amazing and one of the best floor plans among all San Diego luxury condos. If you can find one of those for sale above the 15th floor it would be a very rare find, they usually sell super fast. Being on the bay front you can find a great variety of condos and penthouses at The Grande with spectacular views of both the bay and the city lights.
Amenities at The Grande are some of the best and typical for a BOSA building. These include concierge, security, gym, pool (lap size), dry sauna and steam room. There is also an outdoor BBQ area, a community room for events with billiards and a fully equipped kitchen. The Grande also has a guest room that residents can rent for the night if they have out of town visitors. Last time I checked with the HOA the rate was $125 per night but from what I heard last week (May 2012) from an owner at The Grande the fee has been reduced to $100 per night.
